CAN YOU USE A DANISH P-DISC ABROAD?

The rules for the use of Danish parking discs abroad may vary depending on the specific country or local area you are visiting.

Germany, Austria and Spain are among the countries where the Danish parking disc is illegal.

FDM has made a thorough overview of the various countries' rules for the use of parking discs and electronic parking clocks

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GERMAN AND A DANISH P-DISC?

A Danish parking disc is intended for use in Denmark and meets the specific legal requirements and standards in the country. A German parking disc is designed and approved in accordance with German parking regulations and legislation. It is therefore important to use a parking disc that meets the applicable requirements in the country where you are parking.

There is both a difference in design and functionality on a German and a Danish p-disk.

A German parking disc must be able to be set for the next starting half hour after arrival. That is that if you arrive e.g. at 10.07, the parking disc must be set to 10.30 am. Everything else is wrong and can result in a fine of between 20 and 40 euros. The parking disc must also be placed in the car in such a way that it can be easily read from the outside, preferably on the dashboard.

A German parking disc must always be blue and white. The size must be 11 cm wide and 15 cm high. Otherwise there is a fine of 20 euros.

Note: Parking regulations may vary from city to city, even within the same country. Therefore, it is always a good idea to consult local regulations or authorities to ensure that you are using the correct type of parking disc in a particular region or city.

CAN YOU USE YOUR DANISH ELECTRONIC P-DISC IN GERMANY?

If you want to use an electronic parking meter in Germany, it must be type-approved by the German authorities and be able to set itself to the next started half hour after the engine stops. Danish electronic parking clocks are generally not approved in Germany. Some of the well-known brands of parking clocks, which many drivers use here at home, are also available in Germany, but in a German version. You will therefore typically have to purchase a German model for use in Germany.

Austria and France do not accept the use of electronic parking clocks at all, regardless of model.

DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE BOTH DANISH AND GERMAN PARKING DISCS IN THE CAR?

You may only have one visible parking disc in the car. Danish license plates are not recognized in Germany. Your Danish parking clock must therefore not be visible in the car, at the same time as you use the legally required German parking disk ( fdm.dk ).

DO YOU ALSO NEED A PARKING DISC FOR THE MOTORCYCLE IN GERMANY?

Yes. Although attaching it is a challenge, the parking disc is also mandatory for motorcycles. The legislator does not prescribe where and how, but it must still be observed. Some motorcycle owners make holes in the parking disc and secure it with a cable tie.
